Scouting For Food 2008

Saturday February 9th

LICS Food Pantry open for deliveries 12:00 Noon til 4:00 PM

227 North Lake Drive Lexington

COLUMBIA – As everyone settles back to their daily routine following the holidays, Boy Scouts of the Indian Waters Council would like to remind the community that feeding the hungry is a year-long endeavor.  The “Racing Against Hunger” project will begin on Saturday, February 2nd, as Scouts place specially marked grocery bags, donated by Bi-Lo Food Stores, on doorknobs throughout the eight-county Council area.  If you choose to participate, simply fill the bag with non-perishable food items and the Scouts will return to pick it up on Saturday, February 9th.  If you do not receive a bag, simply fill your own grocery bag with food items and bring the bag to the Council office at 715 Betsy Drive in Columbia.

Last year, over 86,000 food items were collected throughout the Council and given to local food pantries.  This year, Scouts are striving to beat the record of 100,000 food items collected in 2006.  More information can be found on the Council website at .  This “Racing Against Hunger” project is one of the many community service projects, or Good Turns for America, the youth of the Indian Waters Council participate in each year.

Scouts encourage everyone to participate as they hope to collect enough food to keep the local food pantries stocked until late spring.
