February 25, 2012 - Lexington's Race Against Hunger (LRAH)

Lexington's Race Against Hunger (LRAH) includes a 10k run, 5k fitness walk/run, and a one-mile fun run.  This event was established in 2001, with the goal of increasing awareness of world hunger and raising funds to benefit the hungry both locally and worldwide.  One hundred percent of funds raised through LRAH go directly to charitable organizations.  Charities that have benefited from LRAH include World Vision, the Souper Bowl of Caring, Lexington Interfaith Community Services (LICS), Oliver Gospel Mission, and Area Churches Together Serving (ACTS).

Over eleven years, LRAH has donated $238,859.16 to charity and has grown to average over 1000 participants each year.  LRAH raised over $10,000 for LICS Emergency Services and Food For Living (FFL) programs in 2011.  In addition, the community has really pulled together as an average of 150 people volunteer each year to help with the event.  Over half of these are members of local law enforcement who help to keep our streets safe for the runners and walkers. For more information about LRAH, please visit the LRAH web site, http://www.lexrah.org or call  (803) 359-7770 x20.
