LICS Programs
SOCIAL SERVICE MINISTRIES
Emergency Services consist of providing food, clothing, limited financial assistance, referrals, and short term counseling to families/individuals living in Lexington and Saluda County as well as certain zip codes of Calhoun County who struggle to meet their basic needs. The LICS Outreach Center is located in Swansea serving the Swansea/Gaston communities of Lexington County. LICS Food For Living (FFL) program provides monthly food assistance to the disabled and aged population who are living under the USDA Income Standards and struggling to meet their basic needs.
SPECIAL PROJECTS
Special Projects provide an opportunity for a volunteer and/or volunteer group to participate in a mission/outreach project that enhances the daily operations and services of LICS. LICS has a variety of resources for individuals and families requesting services. Examples are: personal care bags, goodie boxes, food drives, and holiday food baskets.
VOLUNTEER SERVICES
Our volunteers are the very heart and soul of the LICS ministry. In 2011 LICS had approximately 537 volunteers give 16,529 hours of their time and service. We always need more volunteers and welcome volunteers to call to schedule an orientation session. Volunteers work in all aspects of the main center and all outreach centers. Volunteers are necessary for leadership roles of board Members, church liaisons, and committee members. In almost all situations, LICS accommodates the volunteers schedule and wishes for times and dates of volunteerism. In the Social Service area, we have a variety of volunteer positions. They include clerical work, answering telephone, and interviewing people seeking assistance. In Community Relations office work and data entry volunteers are needed. The Donation Center volunteer positions include receiving and sorting donations, packing and sorting food, and distributing food and Thrift Shop items. Volunteers in the Thrift Shop stock and display merchandise, greet customers, are cashiers, and provide any needed assistance to customers. For more information call 803-957-6656 ext. 225.
